An Elegant Destination Wedding at Villa Bokeh

Steven and Melissa traveled from the United States to celebrate their destination wedding at Villa Bokeh in Antigua Guatemala, surrounded by the people closest to them. Elegant, intimate and incredibly warm, their wedding was a beautiful reminder that some of the best moments happen when you simply allow the day to unfold.


And on this particular day, that meant embracing a little rain.

 

 

 

A Rainy Wedding Day at Villa Bokeh

Everything took place within Villa Bokeh, from getting ready in the morning through the ceremony, portraits and evening celebration.


Rain arrived just in time for the ceremony, changing the original plans. Villa Bokeh quickly created an alternative ceremony space inside the hotel, while Casa Cristal remained ready for the reception.

Melissa was completely unfazed.


Rather than allowing the weather to change the way she experienced her wedding, she embraced it. She was relaxed, happy and determined that nothing—not even the rain—was going to take away from the day.


That feeling carried throughout the celebration.

A Wedding Morning Centered Around Family

Some of my favorite photographs from the day happened before the ceremony.


Their daughter moved between both parents while they got ready, spending time with her dad and later joining Melissa. She wasn’t simply present at the wedding; Steven and Melissa intentionally made her part of it.

Melissa also shared a beautiful, emotional moment with two of her aunts as she prepared for the ceremony.


For me, these are the photographs that give a wedding story its depth. The beautiful dress and carefully designed spaces matter, but so do the people standing just outside the frame helping you get ready, the embraces, the nerves, and the relationships that brought everyone there.

Classic Wedding Style With a Modern Detail

Her gown had a classic, structured silhouette covered in dimensional floral detailing. Instead of a traditional veil, she chose a delicate scarf around her neck—a subtle modern detail that made the entire look feel distinctly her own.


Steven complemented her in black trousers, a crisp white dinner jacket and black bow tie, creating a timeless black-and-white pairing that felt perfectly suited to the elegance of Villa Bokeh.

An Intimate Ceremony Surrounded by Their Favorite People

Melissa entered the ceremony alongside her father and their daughter.


What I remember most about the ceremony, though, were Steven and Melissa’s expressions. During their vows, there were enormous smiles between them.


There was joy rather than performance.


Their daughter remained an important part of the celebration, and that sense of family continued throughout the entire day.

Wedding Portraits in Villa Bokeh’s Gardens

Then the rain gave us exactly the opening we needed.

It stopped long enough for us to step outside during cocktail hour and explore Villa Bokeh’s lush gardens for their wedding portraits.


The air was humid, the sky remained soft and slightly grey, and everything in the gardens looked intensely green after the rain. We walked through the property while helping Melissa maneuver her incredible gown, photographing the two of them among the tropical foliage and around the wedding spaces.

Some of my favorite portraits were created around Casa del Alma, a small white wooden structure tucked within the gardens. Its clean, light exterior created a beautiful contrast against the surrounding greenery and Melissa’s textured gown.

We also incorporated elements of their reception design into a few portraits before allowing them to return to their guests.

Meanwhile, cocktail hour unfolded overlooking Villa Bokeh’s gardens, pond and volcanic landscape—a setting that makes the property particularly special for couples planning a destination wedding in Antigua Guatemala.


An Elegant Reception at Casa Cristal

The evening continued at Casa Cristal.


Chandeliers filled the reception space with warm light, creating an elegant atmosphere for dinner before the celebration shifted into dancing.

And once again, some of the moments I remember most weren’t planned.


Melissa’s father delivered an emotional speech. Later, Steven danced alongside his sisters, the three of them together as emotions took over. Guests cried with them.

Eventually, those tears gave way to a completely different energy: music, colorful lights and a very full dance floor.

Why Villa Bokeh Is Special for a Destination Wedding in Antigua Guatemala

One of the advantages of having a Villa Bokeh wedding is that an entire destination celebration can exist within one property.


Steven and Melissa’s guests traveled to Guatemala and stayed at Villa Bokeh, allowing the wedding to feel less like a single event and more like time spent together.


From its interiors and Casa Cristal to the lush gardens, volcanic views and quieter corners such as Casa del Alma, the property also gives us an incredible variety of environments for photography without requiring the couple to leave the hotel on their wedding day.


Steven and Melissa didn’t need to.

Their story was already there.

Photographing the Beauty—and Everything Underneath It



When I think about this wedding, I remember Melissa’s dress and the chandeliers. I remember how beautiful everything looked after the rain.


But I also remember her aunts.

Their daughter moving between mom and dad.

The smiles during the vows.

A father’s emotional words.

Steven dancing with his sisters.

And a bride who looked at the rain on her wedding day and decided it wasn’t going to change a thing.


That balance is what I want my wedding photography to hold: the art and the honesty of the day at the same time.


As an Antigua Guatemala wedding photographer, my approach blends an editorial eye with documentary storytelling, allowing my couples to remain present while I photograph both the beauty they’ve created and the moments they could never have planned.


Because a wedding can be exquisitely beautiful and still feel completely real.


Steven and Melissa’s was both.
